Ambassador Jeffrey in Eskisehir

Ambassador James Jeffrey visited Eskisehir on Friday, November 20.  Travelling by rapid train from Ankara to Eskisehir, the Ambassador met with Governor Mehmet Kılıçlar and Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen.  Anadolu University Rector Fevzi Surmeli hosted a lunch that was followed by a roundtable discussion with students focusing on the importance of studying English and opportunities for study in American universities.  Ambassdor Jeffrey went on to participate in the inauguration of the Turkish American Association’s Eskişehir franchise.  In his comments, he noted that the Turkish American Association which has had a relationship with Turkey since 1951 will provide both cultural and English language training in a modern facility at the new Eskisehir franchise.  Ambassador Jeffrey wrapped up his Eskisehir visit with a tour of Sikorsky partner Alp Havacılık’s Eskişehir factory.  Speaking with reporters at Alp Havacılık, Ambassador Jeffrey emphasized strong US support for Turkey’s fight against PKK terrorism and underscored the extensive history of defense industrial cooperation between U.S. and Turkey.
