Ambassador Jeffrey and Turkey’s Newest Diplomats Discuss The Tradecraft, Lifestyle and Challenges of Diplomacy

Ambassador Jeffrey spoke to the new class of diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to highlight the close bilateral ties between Turkey and the U.S. Ambassador Jeffrey shared some of his experiences during his 40-year career in international affairs, including the critical importance of learning foreign languages and the importance of mastering the delicate, but necessary, skills of compromise and negotiation. During the interactive session, Ambassador Jeffrey and the new Turkish diplomats discussed a wide range of bilateral and global issues such as the improved situation in Iraq, improved ties between Turkey and Armenia, NATO challenges in Afghanistan, and the Obama administration’s new approach to dialogue with countries such as Iran and Russia.
