As part of ongoing efforts to improve the regulatory and investment environment in the Turkish pharmaceutical market, Embassy Ankara organized a first-ever Turkish delegation from Ministry of Science, Technology and Industry, Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey and Ministry of Health to visit the BIO Convention in Washington, DC and the innovative pharmaceutical incubator project in Boston between June 26-July 1, 2011. The aim of the trip was to increase collaboration between the regulatory agencies of both countries and to show the importance of biotechnology for Turkey’s efforts to expand its economy and move its domestic production up in the value chain. During the visit, the US and Turkey exchanged views on a wide range of pharmaceutical issues, including regulatory barriers to Turkey.
The Turkish delegation met with both USG and US industry representatives to explore areas of potential investment and cooperation in the innovative pharmaceuticals sector. US FDA colleagues have shared best practices with the Turkish Ministry of Health as a follow-up to the trip. The Turkish Delegation has already decided to participate in next year’s BIO Convention in Boston as well.
