Ambassador James Jeffrey visited Konya on December 29.  He started his day with a tour of the Mevlana Museum hosted by the Museum Director Yusuf Benli and ended with a roundtable at Selcuk University.  During the day, the Ambassador had discussions with Konya Governor Aydin Dogan and Konya Mayor Tahir Akyurek, and a lunch meeting with MUSIAD President Aslan Korkmaz and board members.  Discussions focused on current and future prospects for development in Konya.  The press was able to ask a few questions during the visit with the governor.  The last visit of the day was with Selcuk University Rector Suleyman Okudan at the university’s music conservatory where conservatory students presented a concert of traditional music.  Following the concert, the Ambassador met with students studying English in the University’s programs.  The Ambassador had questions for the students about their studies following which he opened himself up to questions from them.  Many of the students were interested in finding out about increased opportunities for educational and cultural exchange
