Ambassador Jeffrey Visits Award-Winning Excavation Site

On July 17, Ambassador James Jeffrey traveled to Kerkenes Mountain, in Yozgat, to visit the winners of a 2009 Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation grant.  The grant will support the work of a team of archaeologists from the Middle East Technical University who are excavating the environs of an exceptional Iron Age city gate to ancient Kerkenes known as the "Cappadocia Gate."  Ambassador Jeffrey also visited another Embassy-supported project, the Kerkenes Eco-Center in Sahmuratli Village.  The Ambassador was warmly welcomed by Governor Amir Cicek and other high level officials of the district.
