Nobel Laureate Dr. Varmus Speaks at National Cancer Week Symposium in Ankara

Dr. Harold E. Varmus, Nobel prize winner and the current director of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), visited Ankara this week. Dr. Varmus, who was one of the key speakers at the National Cancer Week Symposium organized by the Ministry of Health, stressed major themes about cancer as a disease, the role of the NCI, and what it is doing to try to promote better control of cancer in the U.S. and throughout the world. “I am delighted to be in Turkey for the first time in 51 years. I would like to commend Turkey for its close attention to cancer. I am pleased to see progress has been made on cancer prevention and treatment in Turkey. This is an inspiration,” noted Dr. Varmus.
