Silliman presents at the art exhibit

New York City as depicted through the eyes of a painter from Ankara, Selcuk Basaran, can be seen in a free art exhibit called “New York Times” at the Cankaya Belediyesi, Cagdas Sanatlar Merkezi through Sunday January 24.  After Ankara, the exhibit will travel to the American Corners in Gaziantep, Erzurum and Kayseri.  Both the artist Selcuk Basaran and the Deputy Chief of Mission Douglas Silliman spoke at the opening on Monday which was well attended by people acquainted with the artist’s work.

Selcuk Basaran completed his higher education at Gazi University in Art Education in 1998.  He worked at METU High School as an art teacher between 2001 and 2008 and has been an instructor at the “Art Atelier,” part of Ankara METU Graduates Association.  His first personal exhibit was at TCDD Ankara Art Gallery in 2006.  He continued his painting in New York between 2008 and 2009 and presently works from his studio in Ankara.
