Condolence Statement on the Death of Ismail Cem

Ankara, January 24, 2007

I was deeply saddened to hear of the death of former Foreign Minister Ismail Cem. He was a Turkish patriot and a distinguished world statesman, as well as a friend of the United States. On behalf of the United States, I extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Turkey on his passing.
