US Mission Brings Black History Month to Turkey

Every February the US celebrates Black History Month to honor the contributions and history of African-Americans. This year the US mission brings Black History Month to Turkey with several events planned: Every February the US celebrates Black History Month to honor the contributions and history of African-Americans. This year the US mission brings Black History Month to Turkey with several events planned: a film festival in Ankara, a lecture series featuring Washington University Professor Dr. Gerald Early and a concert tour by the Duende Jazz Quartet and an "Evening of American Culture," featuring a tribute to African-American music at the Turkish-American Association  in Ankara. 

Since 1926, The Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and History (ASALH) has established the national theme for the month long celebration. The 2007 theme is "From Slavery to Freedom: The Story of Africans in the Americas."
