U.S. Embassy Statement Concerning March 24 Commentary  

Ankara, March 29, 2006

A column that appeared March 24 in a Turkish newspaper claimed that the US is preparing “concentration camps” for its “political opposition.”  The column further suggested that under extraordinary circumstances such camps “would be filled with Muslims.”   These claims are absolutely false.  No such facilities are being constructed, and none are planned.  All Americans, including Muslims, who oppose US Government policies are free to exercise their democratic rights and express their views.
