US Embassy Announces Exhibition to Mark 60th Anniversary of Marshall Plan

"Vision of a Family of Nations" at Turkish-American Association July 9-20

Ankara July 10, 2007

The US Embassy in Ankara is sponsoring an exhibit telling the story of the Marshall Plan, the recovery program that transformed post-World War II Europe into a continent of peaceful and prosperous nations.  The exhibit, marking the 60th anniversary of the plan, will be on display from July 9 to 20 at the Turkish-American Association in Ankara.

On June 5, 1947, Secretary of State George C. Marshall spoke at Harvard University and outlined what would become known as the Marshall Plan. Secretary of State Marshall's vision for a Europe still devastated by war was a diplomatic triumph that combined emergency aid, creative financing, exchange programs and persuasive diplomacy to create long-term peace in Europe.  Soldier-Statesman George C. Marshall went on to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in part for this contribution to humanity.
