Readout of Visit to Turkey by U.S. Department of the Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence

On September 4-5, 2012 the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen met with officials across the Turkish government and representatives of the Turkish financial sector.
In series of productive meetings with officials from the government and financial sector, Under Secretary Cohen discussed the importance of the Turkish financial sector as part of the global effort to implement international sanctions intended to convince Iran to address concerns about its nuclear program. The Under Secretary also reaffirmed the continued cooperation by the U.S. and Turkey to increase sanctions against the Assad regime in an effort to hasten an end to the violence in Syria.
In discussions concerning terrorist financing in the region, Under Secretary Cohen underscored the importance of U.S. and Turkey efforts to safeguard the U.S., Turkish, and international financial sector from abuse by terrorist groups and other illicit actors.
