Presidential Elections in Turkey

The United States congratulates President Abdullah Gul on his election to office today by the Turkish Parliament. The successful completion of these elections is testament to the maturity of Turkish democracy and the strength of the Turkish constitution. The United States looks forward to continuing our strong relationship with Turkey working with President Gul and the new Turkish government when it is in place.
