OtherELF Mora Hockstein "Using the Internet in English Language Teaching" Buyuk Kolej, Ankara, May 6, 2006 This keynote speech introduced internet resources for teachers in three parts: sites for students to study English independently, sites for teachers to find free ready-made lesson plans and flashcards, and yahoogroups as a professional development resource for teachers. ELF Mora Hockstein "Using Literature Cirlces and Effective Group Work Practices" Mugla University, Mugla, April 14, 2006 This session demonstrated the group-work technique of using literature circles to deepen student understanding of literary texts. The benefits of this approach, in addition to general effective practices for group work interactions were highlighted, and participants practiced the roles of literature circle using a short story. ELF Maria Iskenderoglu "Moving Beyond Literature Circles" TAA, Ankara March 14, 2006 This practical session included information on the methodology of Literature Circles and carried the discussion further by providing real classroom examples and gave participants a chance to see Literature Circles in action. ELF Mora Hockstein "Meaningful Ways to Use Dictations" TAA, Ankara, February 18, 2006 This session introduced and demonstrated eight dictation techniques that require students to demonstrate comprehension by listening, manipulating language, and responding in writing. ELF Jill Cargile "Teaching Vocabulary" TAA, Ankara February 10, 2006 This presentation offered suggestions for using the Academic Word List (Coxhead) as support for both overall fluency and vocabulary/reading sections of standardized exams such as YDS and KPDS. ELF Claire Nice "Using Videos" TAA, Ankara, February 10, 2006 The Using Videos session covered ways of using authentic video to provide accurate context for language while improving speaking, listening, and reading skills. ELF Sally Ashton "Drama Activities" TAA, Ankara February 10, 2006 In the Drama Activities workshop a practical range of teaching strategies from warm-up games to Theater Sports, Readers Theater, script dramatizations and text studies using Hot Seat and Conscience Alley were presented. The benefits of Drama as constructivist learning, an overview of the learning styles engaged by Drama as well as a brief history of the background of Drama as a teaching tool were also discussed.
